DEN separates pre-arranged cars from app-based rides, and the two use different islands. Going to the wrong one is the most common mistake arriving passengers make.
Jeppesen Terminal, Level 5, Island 2, the limousine area
West or east side, whichever side your baggage claim is on. Island 2 is for pre-arranged limousine and black car service. The ride-hailing apps pick up at a different island, so follow the signs for limousines rather than for rideshare.
Baggage claim at Denver International Airport sits on Level 5 of the Jeppesen Terminal, on both the west and east sides. Take your bags first. Your chauffeur waits in the holding lot until you are ready, so there is no meter running while you stand at the carousel.
Once outside, cross to Island 2. This is the island for pre-arranged limousine and black car service, and it is not the same island the ride-hailing apps use. Either the west or the east side works: use whichever side your baggage claim is on, and tell us which one when you land.
Give the attendant the company name, Luxury Rides Denver, and your last name. The booth calls the holding lot and your chauffeur is dispatched to you. This is how pre-arranged pickups work at DEN, and it is why your ride has to be booked in advance rather than hailed at the curb.
With the meet and greet add-on, your chauffeur waits at the arrivals level with a name sign and helps with the bags to the vehicle. It is the simpler option for a first visit to Denver, for a client you are hosting, or for anyone travelling with children or a lot of luggage.
Luxury Rides Denver holds a Denver International Airport commercial ground transportation permit, GT-04183, issued by the City and County of Denver and valid through May 2028, plus Colorado PUC permit LL-04671. That permit is what allows a vehicle to pick you up at the terminal at all, and operators without one cannot legally work the airport curbside.
With the flight number we follow the aircraft and move the pickup with it. A delay does not cost you the booking and it does not add a charge for the time the plane spends in the air. With only a clock time, a delayed arrival turns into a car that left and a passenger on the curb.
Work backwards from the flight, not forwards from the door. Downtown Denver to DEN is about 35 minutes without traffic and the Tech Center about 31, both along Peña Boulevard, which is the only road in and out of the airport. Add the airline's recommended check-in window and the security wait on top of that. For an early morning departure, booking the night before is the safer move, and we run 24 hours a day for exactly those trips.
Our SUVs seat up to 6 passengers and carry full-size luggage. In winter, tell us how many sets of skis or boards are coming so we assign the right vehicle rather than discovering the problem at the curb. For groups larger than six we run more than one vehicle on the same schedule.
Airport rules prohibit permitted operators from soliciting passengers inside the terminal, so a pre-arranged car has to be reserved beforehand. Online bookings need at least 2 hours of notice. For anything sooner, call (720) 388-3100 and we will confirm availability.
All three get you off the airport. They are not the same product, and the honest answer is that each one wins in a different situation.
| Option | When the car is assigned | Who rides with you | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private car service | Booked in advance, waiting when you land | Your own vehicle, nobody else on board | Fixed schedule, luggage and ski gear, clients and families, mountain routes in winter |
| Ride-hailing apps | Requested on arrival, driver assigned then | Whoever accepts the trip | A short hop into town when you travel light and the timing is flexible |
| Shared shuttle | Departs on a schedule, fills with other passengers | Shared with other travellers and their stops | The cheapest option if you do not mind extra stops and a longer trip |
The case for a private car is strongest on the trips where being late is expensive or the drive is hard: a client arriving for a meeting, an early flight out, a family with luggage, or a winter run up I-70 to the resorts.
Every trip in or out of DIA runs along Peña Boulevard, so the airport sits about 25 miles from downtown Denver even though it serves the whole metro. These are the real distances and typical drive times without traffic, measured in September 2026.
| Destination | Distance | Drive time | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Denver | 26.5 mi | about 35 min | Peña Blvd and I-70 W |
| Union Station and LoDo | 25.8 mi | about 30 min | Peña Blvd and I-70 W |
| Colorado Convention Center | 25.6 mi | about 36 min | Peña Blvd and I-70 W |
| Cherry Creek | 24.7 mi | about 39 min | Peña Blvd and I-70 W |
| Denver Tech Center | 26.7 mi | about 31 min | Peña Blvd and I-225 S |
| Boulder | 42.6 mi | about 45 min | E-470 N |
| Golden | 35.9 mi | about 41 min | Peña Blvd and I-70 W |
| Red Rocks Amphitheatre | 40.3 mi | about 48 min | I-70 W |
| Resort | Distance | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Breckenridge | 102 mi | about 1 h 50 min |
| Vail | 118 mi | about 2 h |
| Beaver Creek | 128 mi | about 2 h 10 min |
| Steamboat Springs | 177 mi | about 3 h 10 min |
| Aspen | 220 mi | about 4 h |
Winter weather on I-70 and traffic on Peña Boulevard can add time, which is why we track your flight and adjust the pickup instead of holding you to the booked time.
